Updates

Hello All,
I hope everyone is "enjoying" this summer weather, i went to the beach last weekend and it was great.

First off, the ribbons and medals from the summer program are finally in. You can pick up your swimmers awards at the community ed building during business hours.

Second, the winter season is fast approaching and registration will be on October 30th from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at the high school pool lobby, as well as, November 1st from 6:00pm - 7:30pm at the high school pool lobby. Returning swimmers will not need to take the swim test, but any new swimmer will be required to take the swim test. Online registration will be available when it is posted on the community ed site. I hope to see everyone there.

Third, the entire season schedule is posted to the website. There are a few meets that do not have locations or start times, those locations and times will be decided by the host club at a later time. Once i know the locations and times i will post them to the website.
Here is a link to the schedule: Schedule

There will be a parents meeting on November 29th at 5:30pm at the high school pool lobby. Please come to the meeting i will be discussing topics ranging from Swim meet info, how to use the website, Fundraising, Swim Clinics, and future improvements to the team. This will also be a great time to ask questions and interact with the coaching staff.

An informational flyer should be coming home with all elementary students within the next few weeks. Please keep an eye out for that.

One last thing, let's try to build this team and make it the best team we can. If you know of anyone who you think might be interested in swimming for this program, invite them to join the team.

B meet info

Hello all,

Congratulations to the "B" meet swimmers today. We swam well and took home many awards. Awards will be available to pick up in a few weeks(mid-August) at the Community Education Building. The West Michigan Swim League ran out of some awards, so they have to order some more and will send them out to the coaches.

Congratulations to our lone "B" Meet Champion: Brayden Perdue - Boys 8&U 50 Freestyle.

I want to thank all the parents for letting myself and the coaching staff coach your children. We could not have had such a successful season without you. Thank you, and your swimmers for making my first season as Head Coach of the Grandville Age Group Swim Team a memorable one.

Next, information about the winter season will be available in the Fall Brochure coming out in a few weeks. I have also posted registration dates to the practice calendar on the website. Please check the website and your email accounts for future updates this fall. I will also be posting those updates to the facebook page.

Again, Thank you all for such a great season,
See you at the pool,
Coach Jessie

"A" meet information and scoring

Hello All,

If you were following the meet on meet mobile you may have noticed how we placed overall at the meet today. If not i will let you know how we finished as a team. Our five 13 and over swimmers placed 14th overall at the "A" meet on July 18th. Not a bad finish for only having 5 representatives from our team at that meet, good job swimmers.

At the 12 and under "A" meet the team ended up in 4th place out of 19 teams. Great finish to an amazing season. We also had a few "A" meet Champions: Ty Vanderwall in the Boys 8&U 25 Yard Breaststroke, and the Boys 8&U 100 yard Medley Relay(Bryson Rojas - Backstroke, Ty Vanderwall - Breaststroke, Keegan DeRidder - Butterfly, Brien Martin - Freestyle), congratulations boys.

Thank you parents for getting your swimmers to the meet, we could not have had such a successful meet without you.

Official results will be posted to the website as soon as they are available.

Ribbons and medals will be at the community education building for pick up in a few weeks. The West Michigan Swim League ran out of some ribbons and medals so they will be ordered and sent out to the coaches as soon as possible.

If your swimmer is competing at the "B" meet tomorrow(July 20) have them there on time and ready to swim. I look forward to a successful "B" meet as well.

See you at the pool,
Coach Jessie

Hello All,

I hope everyone had a safe and happy 4th of July Celebration.

Awards for the Hudsonville Invite will not be available until after the "A" meet. Also, awards for the Championship meets will be available at the Community Education Building after July 25th.

With that being said, we have one more dual meet this season before we have our Championship meets. If your swimmer has not already qualified for the "A" meet, this will be their final opportunity. An updated list of "A" meet qualifiers will be available today at the pool. If your swimmer does not qualify for the "A" meet, your swimmer will be entered into the "B" meet.

The next dual meet will be on Thursday July 13th, we are in need of parent volunteers. We can not run a successful swim meet without you. Please signup at the pool for a volunteer position. Also, if your swimmer cannot attend the event please fill out the absentee form here: https://sites.google.com/site/grandvilleaquatics/aghome/meet-attendance-request

This seasons Swimathon was a huge success, I had a projected team goal of raising $800, and we crushed that goal. The team ended up raising over $1500. This money will be used in the future to buy new swim equipment and resources for the team. Thank you to everyone who participated. The swimmer who donated the most money, and therefor the Grand Prize winner was Madeleine Doornbos, congratulations.

Swim-A-Thon

Hello All,
We will be running a Swim-A-Thon this summer.

What is a Swim-A-Thon?It’s a simple, in-pool fundraiser where participants earn money by swimming lengths of the pool. Swimmers ask family members, friends, neighbors, or businesses to pledge a certain amount of money per length, or make a flat donation in support of the team.
Athletes participating in the Swim-a-Thon fundraiser can earn Swim-a-Thon Deck Pass Patches, participation and incentive awards from the USA Swimming Foundation, including bag tags, swim caps, water bottles, t-shirts, hoodies, towels, duffel bags, and backpacks.
When is the Swim-A-Thon? Tuesday June 27th during normal practice times(13&over 7am-9am, 12&unders 5:30pm-8:00pm).
How many lengths can I swim? Swimmers can swim up to 200 Lengths during the Swim-A-Thon
Where can I pick up my Swim-A-Thon Packet? At practice starting Monday
Who do I tell people to make the checks out to? Grandville Community Education
Can we accept cash? Yes we can
This will be a fun and laid back event. Music will be played, coaches will participate. We will need parents to come on deck and help count lengths for the swimmers. Paper, pencils, and refreshments will be provided.
Please help our team continue to be the best team we can by supporting this fundraiser.
Thanks
-Coach Jessie

Summer Informational Flyer

Hello All,
There will be an informational flyer coming home with students next week. I have included the information below.

Grandville Bulldog Swimming
Age Group
The Grandville Bulldog Swimming (GBDS) program is designed to give children the opportunity to progress from beginning swimming to championship levels.  Your child will learn better stroke technique and gain confidence in competition against others their age and gender.  Swimmers must be able to swim the shortest race of his/her age group—freestyle and backstroke.

We encourage all swimmers to attend practices as frequently as they can, given time commitments and other opportunities for personal growth outside the pool.  If you feel GBDS is the right fit for you, there are a few dates for which you come and register.

*PLACEMENT DATE--ALL NEW SWIMMERS will be April 24th and 26th at the High School Pool during registration*
All new swimmers will be evaluated before the season begins, in order to determine if the swimmer is physically ready for the demands that will be placed on him/her.  We want all swimmers to be successful and proficient in practice and meets.  In some cases, the swimmer may not be ready for the current season.  Therefore, the coach will suggest taking a session of swim lessons to build that proficiency, and then have them try the swim team the next season.

Practice begins Tuesday, May 9th, 2017
